Is there a good solid reason why the government can interfere in an arrangement made by consenting adults (*emphasis on 'consenting adults'*)? I would love to hear your logical feedback from any perspective. There is nothing to stop you in 49 states from living in polygamous/polyandrous relationship. However all benefits from being married are designed purely for couples, not multiples. You can't expect to get get tax breaks, health benefits, or special legal rights such as power of attorney. Polygamy/polyandry would require a large number of laws to be designed specifically for these relationships, as there are a large number of laws, benefits, and rights which are designed only for couples.
