Are you able to recommend any good books to read?
Q. In regards to becoming a wedding planner/consultant? Or perhaps a wedding coordinator anything along the lines about going into the field of helping people with their "Beautiful Day". Even how much they make. Who are they by and the titles of them. Thanks , Dee

A. I would recommend FabJob Guide to becoming a Wedding Planner by Catherine Goulet. I read the reviews for it on Amazon.com, and it looks really helpful. Here's a link to this book: Also, if you're feeling particularly ambitious, here's a book on how to open your own Wedding Consultant/Planning business: Here is a book entitled The Knot Guide to Wedding Vows and Traditions: Readings, Rituals, Music, Dances, and Toasts, and it is written by Carley Roney. I thought this might be useful as things such as rituals probably wouldn't be covered in the basic "How to become a wedding planner" book. Anyways, here's the link: This might be useful as well; it's a book filled with unique wedding ideas: If these Amazon books seem a bit… [cont.]

Kinda freaked. Who do I need to hire for the wedding to run smooth? ?
Q. I am kinda confused with how I will know when to walk in, what order the bridesmaids go in, how to set up the ceremony, who plays the music, and when, and what not for my wedding. I know the pastor will help, but isn't there usually a wedding coordinator there to help you? The church we are getting married in does not offer one, so what exactly kind of person do I hire? Is it a consultant, planner, or something else? I only need help with the rehearsal and the wedding day.

A. You can do it yourself if you talk to people who have done it before. If not, you can find a wedding planner/consultant that will be there for you. When interviewing a wedding planner, you should ask: What training and certification do you have? What is your experience level? Do you have a business license and business insurance? How do you charge for your services? Do you take vendor referral fees? What procedure is in place to provide a replacement if you should be unable to perform on the wedding day?

Better track for consultants?
Q. My overall goal is to get into a consulting career. I currently have a job as a project coordinator ($50,000) in which I am a course manager and an office manager. There are small opportunities for business process mapping and survey analysis, but they are few and far between. I have another offer to become a research analyst ($43,500) with a market research/analysis/consult ing firm. Which job is better for me to take? I know that market research doesn't always transfer over to a consulting career, but does it give me a better chance than my current job? Also, the money at my current job is better. I don't know what to do!?!

A. I remember my first year starting out as a consultant, back in 1995. When presented with a similar choice, I went for the more lucrative option. I'm glad I did. Once you go for the smaller amount, you tend to look for other ways to satisfy yourself or rationalize your choice. Working for less when you know your expertise is worth more is sometimes a harrowing choice. Just go with the better paying option for now and continue to hone your consulting skills.
