From Google Blog Search: "Education and Enrichment" Upper class Schools, better funded/more enrichment opportunities than lower class schools? Q. Today I was in Psyche class, during a discussion about overall social economic status. My teacher said that schooling, education, and funding were the same for upper class people going to upper class public schools as it was for lower class people going to lower class schools. In consideration my experience tells me otherwise. There is a school up north in my city that has numerous outlets for enrichment in the arts, sciences, and math that the schools I went to didn't have. Not to mention the overall quality of teaching. My problem is I need something to back up my beliefs, but I am having trouble finding the appropriate key words to describe this to any search engine. I was hoping for maybe some knowledge on possible research done on this… [cont.] Asked by kabashi_doro - Fri Jan 16 19:08:42 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Check the schools for famous graduates, alumni, compare the numbers between the schools, also compare their dropout rates, their budgets, their SAT scores, and who goes to what colleges and does what afterwards. You may have to search the county websites or city websites and school websites or call and ask for the info - but if you tell them you're a student doing a sociological project and want to do a report on the school's stats because you think it's a good example of success or you went there, whichever, you should be able to get the info. hope that helps! Answered by Dr. M - Sat Jan 17 04:14:48 2009 High School Improv Club? Q. I am trying to start an Improv Club at my high school. I'm a very big fan of the art of improvisational comedy and I'm sure many others share this appreciation. My school requires all of its extracurricular clubs to incorporate some form of education, learning, and enrichment within the activities we do. What are some activities my improv club can do in order to meet this requirement? I believe that improv overall is enriching. It enables students to gain confidence while performing and it exercises our skills of thinking on our feet. What are some games/activites we can do as a group? Thanks! Asked by San Antonio Spurs - Mon Feb 2 21:11:21 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Improv is an excellent way to develop acting skills and confidence. As well, Improv will help with public speaking and could help in debate. As to educational applications, I think that if you also included 'serious' improvisation you would be making sure that you are not just being goofy. I was a High School Drama teacher for several years in Alberta, Canada and improv is actually a unit in the high school drama curriculum. Answered by kris - Mon Feb 2 21:49:13 2009 Who thinks "No Child Left Behind" is actually worsening the situation in schools?
Q. It seems these schools are so intent on improving PSSA scores that they are not teaching the way they should. From what I've seen, it is just deteriorating the education system and causing schools to worry more about government funding than education. My daughter's school district actually has "PSSA classes" and we have four 2 hour delays during the year for "faculty enrichment" having to do with the PSSA. Basic classes are having time cut because of this. Is it just me?, or is this program a failure? What the hell are talking about?! I never said anything about cheating on tests! Did you even read the question? While I do agree with what George Carlin says, I think Head Start is a good program, I have seen children from this program enter… [cont.] Asked by alessa_sunderland - Thu Sep 18 10:31:47 2008 - - 16 Answers - 0 Comments A. Ah yes, another idiotic Bush policy gone awry. Now the teachers in these schools are admitting they are "teaching to the test". Nice try Georgie boy. What we need is smaller class sizes, more teachers, more up to date text books, and teachers with more input into what's being taught. The whole system of how we teach our kids needs to be re-examined, starting from pre-school up. Curriculum's need to be revamped, and I still think that year round school is our only option. There is just so much more being taught in schools today that kids need to know, life is becoming more advanced and technical. We have to spend more time in each subject, making sure the kids know a subject before they move on to the next. My 10 year old son was… [cont.] Answered by dianak502002 - Thu Sep 18 10:41:19 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Education and Enrichment"
