My wife grew up as an only child with parents who had no care for conflict resolution. When someone was upset they yelled, and the other person would yell back and leave the room. The next day or so everything would be ok again and they would act like nothing happened. Or if there were lingering feelings, there might be some snide comments. My family was different. I had siblings and we were taught to think about each others feelings and to apologize when someone was hurt. When we misbehaved and got in trouble we had to explain to mommy that we understood why we were in trouble and how we would act differently next time.
